Walk Their Mile FIrst

They say I don’t walk
This world with enough
Style or grace.

Too slow and clumsy
To be any good use to
This human race.

And given my shoes,
They’d show me how it’s done
With splendiferous panache.

Here…

They’re a woman’s size
Ten and one-half.

Sure, they’ve probably
Seen too many
Miles.

Not to mention all
The headaches, heartaches,
And backaches.

But, I think they’ll
Hold out for another one,
Or even two.

That should be enough time
To show me how you’d
Live my life better than I do.

But, when your finished
I want them
Back!

Because mixed in with all
Those hard times, dead ends
And fears,

Are my years of
Laughter, smiles, and
Joy filled tears.

Then put your own boots back on
And remember we’re all just stumbling
Through this world together.

And before you go and trip another
Or throw stones in the path,
Walk their mile first.

“Lord, have mercy…”
