Lest They Be Forgotten…

“We’re the battling bastards of Bataan;
No mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam.
No aunts, no uncles, no cousins, no nieces,
No pills, no planes, no artillery pieces.
And nobody gives a damn.
Nobody gives a damn.

by Frank Hewlett 1942

You are both gone from my world, but I’ll always remember.

Waverly Cecil, WWII. Served and captured in the Philippines at Corregidor, POW at Mukden, in Manchuria. Photo was taken after months of being released from POW camp and shortly after returning to the states. He was forced into slave labor and welding for the Japanese war effort. Waverly was a six foot tall man, that left POW camp weighing only 97 pounds.
