One of My Missions…

…for my South Carolina trip was to go to the atlantic ocean.

I went there once, when I was 19, the day before I left South Carolina to come back to my home state. I toured the USS Yorktown with my mother. Even though we went on that ship I was never able to really look out over the water and take it all in.

I wanted to go back and take pictures of it and just feel how big it was.

It almost didn’t happen this trip, but we figured it out and we got there at the perfect time. The sun wasn’t setting yet, but it was close.

I almost didn’t get this picture. My friend was worried about our parking spot, and since she has been to the ocean a lot, she decided to head back to the car to keep tabs on it. She told me to stay as long as I wanted, but I felt guilty and I started to hurry to finish and go meet her.

I started to leave with some regret, then realized that I hadn’t even taken off my shoes to walk in the ocean. Oh my god, how could I go to all this effort and not let myself walk in the ocean. I knew my friend meant what she said and so I ran back,

IMG_5561rolled up my pants, tore off my shoes, and that is when I realized there were sea shells everywhere.

The two beaches I have been on before never had sea shells. Like bread crumbs I started following them across the beach. They were just like any sea shell you could buy in a hobby store, but I was still so excited to be collecting these little nature treasures with my own hand.
After sometime I decided to turn back, and as I did, I got to see the sunset! IMG_5560

I rode home barefoot with the sand on my feet.

That was lovely.

Green shoes and green toes with flowers on them, on St. Patricks Day, sea shells, and, an ocean sunset. I hope this makes up for a week of blog neglect!
